🍃When you see the words “trauma sensitive” or “trauma informed”, it means that whoever is providing a service to you has an understanding of trauma and it’s affects, but also creates an environment that promotes safety for any person stepping into their space for services.

✨Here are some core aspects to look for in any mind-body provider when looking for a services to engage in:

•Trustworthiness
•Collaboration

🌷Types of services that trauma-informed professionals occupy are:
•Therapists/Mental Health Providers
•Yoga Teachers
• Chiropractors
•Acupuncturists
•Educators
•Massage Therapists

🌱Be aware that there is a difference between someone who is sensitive to trauma, and someone that works with trauma.

🌻There are many providers in the alternative wellness spaces that have an understanding of what trauma is and how it impacts a person, however, they may not have been trained properly in working with someone who has trauma responses.

📝If you’re needing to work with someone who not only understands trauma, but is well trained in the field, don’t be afraid to ask questions and self-advocate.

🖤Your healing is important and you deserve to be in the care of a provider you feel comfortable and safe with.

📨If you find a practitioner in any wellness space that claims they work with trauma, check out their credentials, and if it’s not easily found, always feel empowered to message or call them to find out.

💔I have sadly heard too many heartbreaking stories of people needing real help who were further damaged by someone who misinformed them of their expertise and services. It’s not ok, especially in the mental health field.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

::What is EMDR?::
A proven method to help individuals recover from trauma and other distressing events.

::How is it different?::
Helps to resolve unprocessed trauma memories in the brain without the client having to go into detail about the distressing event.

::Why choose EMDR?::
When distress from a traumatic event remains, it can feel like the individual is reliving the event in present moment. EMDR helps the brain to naturally process through the event and resolve the original feelings from the original incident.

::Who can benefit?::
There are a variety of issues that EMDR can address, however, the way I use this most is with clients who have experienced trauma/PTSD, sexual assault, abuse, betrayal, grief and loss, childhood trauma from abuse or neglect, anxiety, and depression, and other relational traumas.
