How do I find the right therapist for me?
Some great places to start are Psychology Today and Good Therapy. You can also ask your doctor, insurance company, school, or place of worship for a referral list. Friends and family can also be a great resource to point you to people they may know who practice counseling. If you’re on this page and aren’t finding what you’re looking for, I am more than happy to help point you to a therapist that would be a great fit for you.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We are in-network with select insurance plans. Clients always have the option to use insurance or to self-pay, even if we are in-network with their plan.
Using insurance is never required to receive services here.
Can I choose not to use my insurance even if you accept it?
Yes. Under Texas law, clients may choose to opt out of using insurance and pay privately for therapy services.
We view this choice as part of informed consent and are happy to discuss the implications of each option so you can decide what best aligns with your needs, values, and circumstances.
Why would a client choose private pay instead of insurance?
Many clients in Texas choose private pay for the following reasons:
Increased privacy and confidentiality
Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis and creates a record that is stored by the insurance company.More flexibility in treatment
Insurance companies may limit session frequency, duration of care, or types of services considered “medically necessary.”No requirement for a diagnosis
Texas insurers require a diagnosable mental health condition for reimbursement—even when therapy is sought for life transitions, relationship concerns, parenting stress, or personal growth.Reduced risk of insurance audits
Texas clinicians are required to provide treatment records to insurers upon request during audits or utilization reviews.Continuity of care
Changes in employment, coverage, or plan rules can disrupt insurance-based therapy unexpectedly.
Private pay allows care decisions to remain between you and your therapist, without third-party involvement.
What information does insurance receive if I use my benefits?
When insurance is used, clinicians are required to submit information that may include:
A mental health diagnosis (per DSM criteria)
Dates and frequency of sessions
Treatment plans and progress summaries
Clinical documentation if requested by the insurer
This information becomes part of your insurance and medical record and may be accessed for future coverage decisions.
Are there risks to using insurance for therapy?
Using insurance is a valid option, but it involves trade-offs. These may include:
A permanent diagnosis in your medical record
Insurance determinations about length or necessity of care
Denied or clawed-back claims
Limited flexibility in how therapy is structured
Our role is not to discourage insurance use, but to ensure clients understand these factors before choosing how to pay.
Does paying privately change the quality of care?
No. The quality of care is the same regardless of payment method. However, private pay allows for greater flexibility, autonomy, and depth, as treatment decisions are made collaboratively without insurer oversight.
Why We Are Partially Cash-Pay
We believe ethical mental health care should be accessible, sustainable, and client-centered.
While we accept select insurance plans to increase access, we also maintain a cash-pay model because insurance-based systems often require clinicians to work within rigid, medicalized frameworks that do not always support relational, culturally responsive, or long-term healing work.
Operating partially cash-pay allows us to:
Protect client privacy
Offer flexible and individualized care
Reduce burnout among clinicians
Create space for reduced-fee and community-access services
This model helps us remain clinically present, ethically grounded, and available to clients over the long term—without compromising care to meet insurance demands.
Clients are always free to choose the payment option that best fits their needs.
What should I expect at my first session?
During our first session together, we will chat over your initial intake form, discuss some formalities, and come up with the best for treatment for you. This is done collaboratively. I believe that my clients know their stories better than I do, and I do not assume the role of “expert” on your life. My job is to create emotional safety for you to process, provide unbiased feedback, and offer insight and suggestions that may help your healing along. I do not push any client to any type of therapy they are not ready to explorer, and I do not ask my clients to go emotionally where I myself have not gone.
How to request your medical records.
To obtain your medical records, please email info@wholelifehealingtherapies.com with the subject line “Request Client Records”. Please give 14 business days for your provider to prepare and submit the records to you. Client will be charged a flat fee as outlined in their informed consent documents for their request.
